If you’re unsure where your vehicle was towed, start by calling the local police at 311. They can provide you with the name of the towing company that has your vehicle. Once you have that information, you can contact the towing company directly.
To help us locate your vehicle, please have the VIN number or license plate ready, as we cannot track vehicles by color, stripes, or other distinguishing features.
Once you confirm that your vehicle is with us, you can then arrange a pickup or retrieve any personal items by contacting us directly.
Vehicles will only be released to registered owners who present the following items:
A. The original title and/or current (non-expired) registration. Only original documents will be accepted; DMV-issued copies are acceptable.
B. A valid government-issued ID, such as a driver’s license, state ID, green card, or passport. Costco, Sam’s Club, UAA or UAF cards, and copies of IDs will not be accepted.
C. A valid registration and proof of insurance.
Please note, an insurance card is not considered proof of ownership.
If you are not the registered owner of the vehicle, you will need to obtain permission from the owner to claim the vehicle. This can be done by submitting a completed Alaska DMV Form 847 (Power of Attorney), which must be notarized.
In the case where the owner is deceased, an exception may be made if you can provide proof of being the executor of the estate.
To retrieve items from a vehicle, the same requirements for proof of ownership apply. You must provide:
Vehicles can be claimed during normal business hours after providing valid proof of ownership and paying the impound fine.
If you wish to retrieve your vehicle after hours, an additional after-hour fee will apply. You must contact us in advance to make arrangements for after-hour pickup.
